A new Lollicup Coffee and Tea shop will be soft opening on Thursday in the Diamond Jamboree Asian-mega-food-super-center in Irvine.

If you’re not familiar with the center, it’s a 114,000 square foot shopping center at the corner of Alton Parkway and Jamboree Road that’s nearing capacity.

According to John Chan, owner of the shop, they won’t be holding a true grand opening until January but beginning Thursday around noon you should be able to get your boba, tea, coffee, slushies and smoothies there.

As an added bonus, Chan say they asked the Kogi Korean BBQ truck to come and it should be there Thursday night around 10:30 p.m.

Dog Whisperer at new pet store this afternoon

October 26th, 2009, 1:57 pm by Ian Hamilton

Cesar Millan, a.k.a. “The Dog Whisperer,” will be signing autographs, answering questions and greeting fans from 2 to 4 p.m. at the grand opening of Irvine’s newest pet store

Passionate Pet opened on Friday but they’re holding the grand opening today.

The store, at 18871 Tellar Ave in Irvine (near the airport at the 405 freeway at the Jamboree exit), offers an assortment of pet products from “practical to posh.”

The shop also offers pet adoptions and grooming as well as a pet hotel and ” dog day play” that lets  people drop of their pets for the day for $30 - great for people who need to get to work and don’t want to leave their animal alone for the day.  The store apparently also offers plans for people who need to leave their pets often.

The store hours are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

Bico Australia (pronounced “Beeko”) is opening its first location in Orange County in the Irvine Spectrum Center.

As early as this week a kiosk will  be opened to sell the unisex pendants (meaning it can be worn by both men and women) with the store expected to open by mid-October.

The jewelry  is described both as  “urban” and “tribal” and runs from about $28 to $120. Check out the photo to get a sense of what Bico Australia jewelry looks like.

The pewter pieces are plated “with various layers of silver, brass or copper” then hand finished, according to the Bico Australia Web site.

“It’s very tribal looking. It has a spiritual and artistic look to it. There’s a meaning behind each piece,” said franchise owner Darren Frank. “And it’s all brand new to OC.”

‘Disneyworld of golf’ store to open before holidays

OC golfers and tennis players will have a new place to spend their time and money come November or December.

Golfsmith Xtreme, expected to open before Christmas in Irvine, is described by a company official as the “Disneyworld of Golf.”

What makes it the Disneyworld of Golf?

The store will occupy a 40,000-square-foot space and feature a “big indoor driving range with 9 hitting bays, a huge putting green” and three simulators, said Matt Corey, senior vice president of marketing for Golfsmith. It will also have a full service tennis department.

There’s already a Golfsmith store in Santa Ana but this new one will be larger. The Golfsmith Xtreme moniker (rather than simply Golfsmith) denotes the size of this place - 40,000 square feet. Most Golfsmith stores are about half that size, and only about six of these Golfsmith Xtremes have been opened.

“We feel like this is going to be so different than anything they’ve seen in Southern California. I don’t think anybody has brought this type of experience to Orange County,” Corey said.

The store will be at 16175 Lake Forest Drive in Irvine, that’s just South of Interstate 5 right at the border of Lake Forest. It will be right next door to a Best Buy.

What say you, Orange County golfers and tennis players? Does this place interest you? Is it the Disneyworld of golf? Let us know in the comments.

Tustin gets a new hair salon

June 26th, 2009, 4:23 pm by Cameron Bird

After spending four years as a stylist in a Santa Ana studio, Jeff Ludwig has decided to open his own place in Tustin, Elysse James reports.

The salon, which will host a grand opening ceremony on July 15, has a homey feel to welcome customers.

The Ludwigs said they decided to open the salon now because Jeff Ludwig had a strong customer base from his styling work, and because they aren’t worried about a recession.
