Giveaways galore at new golf superstore

Golfsmith Xtreme is celebrating its grand opening today and Saturday with discounts and giveaways for the first in line.

On both Friday and Saturday, the first 500 customers can choose between a free round of golf at Shorecliffs Golf Club in San Clemente, or a $25 cash card.

The fine print: the free round of golf can only be played Monday through Thursday; and the cash card can’t be used toward any PING, FootJoy, Titleist or Cobra products. There’s a limit of one giveaway per guest, while supplies last.

Customers can also take advantage of a 15% discount on select items worth $50 or more.

The 40,000 square foot uber-store is a golfer’s playground, with a 9-bay indoor driving range, a putting green and three simulators. The store also features an extensive range of tennis supplies.

Golfsmith is located at 16181 Lake Forest Drive in Irvine; it will be open from  9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.

Burn off turkey dinner with a free workout

Well ladies, feel guilty no more: Total Woman Gym & Spa locations are offering free workouts throughout the weekend so you can burn off that brined turkey and sweat away that stuffing.

Today through Sunday, Nov. 30th, you can come for the free workout and stay for the relaxing spa treatments, which include massage, facials and waxing (those aren’t free, natch).

The gym has locations in Irvine, Laguna Hills, Brea, Mission Viejo and Placentia

Free food (for some) at Irvine Chick-fil-A

If you like chicken and games of chance, an Irvine Chick-fil-A location should be your destination of choice from now until the end of the month.

Every day in November, every 100th guest at Chick-fil-A Woodbury Town Center eats free, whether they buy dine in, carry out or drive-thru.

Chick-fil-A is open from 6:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. and is located at 6428 Irvine Blvd.

What’s your Chick-fil-A meal of choice? I’m partial to the original chicken sandwich– no pickle with American cheese, please…

Summer concert series gets a righteous headliner

Guitarist Jerry McFarland, who played with the likes of the Righteous Brothers‘ Bill Medley, will serenade and entertain audiences once again at Orchard Hills Village Center Thursday evenings through July 23. The performances are part of the center’s courtyard music series and start at 6 p.m.

Orchard Hills Village Center is at Portola Parkway and Culver Drive (click for map).

“As a guitarist, vocalist and keyboard player, Jerry has worked with many very special musicians; among them Bill Medley of the famed Righteous Brothers and Nashville Christian artist singer-songwriter Jeff Pearson. Jerry has worked with the likes of Steve Wood (Kenny Loggins and Honk), Frank Cotinola (Jose Feliciano and the Missiles of October), and Tim Lee (Bill Medley Righteous Brothers band). Jerry has performed at hundreds of Southern California venues including the world famous Troubadour, Hollywood Bowl and Anaheim Stadium.”

More free ice cream this Friday

Mitch Goldstone at ScanMyPhotos.com has informed me that his retail store’s free Ben & Jerry’s ice cream social on Friday was an astounding success.

“Was so much fun and brought so many smiles that we’re doing it again next Friday,” he writes.

Exchange an old oil filter for a new one

Kragen Auto Parts in Irvine is hosting a free oil filter exchange tomorrow from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Bring in a scummy filter for recycling and get a fresh one in return. A select few guests will get prizes.

This outreach event is part of a campaign geared towards car enthusiasts and kids interested in learning about the environment. It’s sponsored by City of Irvine and the California Integrated Waste Management Board and intended to promote local stewardship.
