November 2nd, 2009, 2:04 pm by Ian Hamilton

chipotle

The power of the press, people.

Last week I mentioned that Chipotle was noticeably absent from the Irvine Spectrum’s free Curbside To-Go Program. Well, no more.

I’ve heard from the Irvine Spectrum people and Chipotle has decided to join the program. Now you can get Chipotle without ever having to get out of your car too.

Be sure to check out the original post for all the times this service is offered, where to go to pick up your food and  see what other restaurants are participating.

New York-style hot dog eatery coming to Irvine

April 30th, 2009, 9:20 am by Cameron Bird

carms-costa-mesa_blogCarm’s Coneys is expected to open a restaurant at the Irvine Spectrum Center in June, Fast Food Maven Nancy Luna reports.

The New York-style hot dog joint once sold frankfurters in Costa Mesa, but that location closed last year. The parent company of the restaurant has been scouting other Orange County locations for several months. It had settled on a spot in Orange, but building issues have set back that plan.

In Irvine, Carm’s will occupy a spot that was once a McDonald’s. “I think the Irvine Co. is really looking for us to raise the bar at that food court,” investor Glenn Schusterman said.

Obama: the hot dog served in Irvine

April 14th, 2009, 6:34 pm by Cameron Bird

obamadog_blog1Fresh off news that a Portuguese water canine has entered the White House, a local eatery is serving its own Obama-inspired dog.

Actually, Haute Links in Irvine has been cooking its good idea since before the First Family followed through with its pet intentions. Now, the “Obama Dog” has been re-elected; the Chicago-style item will stick around till the end of April.

For $2.99, here’s what you’ll get on a poppy seed bun: an all-beef hot dog, tomato, onions, neon green relish, pickle spear, sport pepper, mustard and celery salt.

One very timely PR move. If you’ve tried the Obama Dog, tell us what you think below!

Haute Links is located at The Square shopping center at 17915 MacArthur Blvd. (click for map). Call 949-863-1695 for more information.

Another Frozen Yogurt chain sets its sights on Irvine

April 8th, 2009, 2:00 pm by Cameron Bird

froyoBy Stephen Craig, community blogger

It looks as if the eight frozen yogurt chains that are currently doing business here in the Irvine area (Golden Spoon, Yogurtland, Red Mango, Swirls, Pinkberry, Céfiore, Cherry-on-Top, and Tutti Frutti) are about to get some more competition.

Yogurt Passion, a self-serve fro-yo chain, which, like a lot of its rivals these days, charges customers by the ounce, is planning to open a location at The Crossroads shopping center later this spring.

When the new shop does make its debut, customers will find that they have access to the usual assortment of frozen yogurt flavors, as well as the Candyland-esque range of toppings that everyone has come to expect.

While the price-per-ounce has not been confirmed as of yet, it is known that Yogurt Passion charges .30 cents an ounce at their flagship location in Westminster. So it’s rather safe to assume that a similar price can expected here.

The Crossroads shopping center is located at the corner of Barranca Parkway and Culver Drive (click for map).

Fast food prizes at new McDonald’s in Irvine

March 19th, 2009, 11:31 am by Cameron Bird

Golden arches now tower over Orchard Hills Village Center in Irvine. Step through at this Saturday’s grand opening event and vie for some McDonald’s themed things, including basketballs, Frisbees and food coupons.

For every Happy Meal purchased, customers will get a raffle ticket for said prizes. Drawings are to be held every 30 minutes from noon to 4 p.m.; ticket-holders must be present to retrieve their winnings.

The 500 guests under 13 years old — winners and losers alike — can walk home with goody bags.

And lastly, but not least incredulously, the man in the man-sized clown costume himself, Ronald McDonald (one of many), will put on a magic show from 1 to 3 p.m.

McDonald’s at Orchard Hills Village Center is at Portola Parkway and Culver Drive (click for map). Call 714-505-3300 for more information.
