Deal: $10 off $30 purchase at Bath and Body Works

November 5th, 2009, 1:30 pm by Ian Hamilton

screen-shot-2009-11-05-at-122758-pm

Now I’m not a Bath & Body Works kind of guy. I reach for the nearest towel, shampoo or soap and could care less about the brand, scent or color of whatever I’m using.

Still, spending $20 for $30 worth of stuff seems like a pretty good deal.

Coupon is available through CheapIrvine.com and it works online too. Coupon expires Nov. 22.

Save money in Irvine with locally run coupon Web site

I found a new site that should save us all a few bucks while also helping to support local business.

Cheapirvine.com has only been around for about two months but they’ve built up a collection of coupons for more than 100 local businesses. This, combined with the deals we’re bringing you on the OC Deals Blog, should satisfy the bargain hunter in all of us. Both coupons from cheapirvine.com as well as OC deals can be found in the sidebar of this blog too.

Founder Albert Ko started cheapcheapcheap.com three years ago to help people find online shopping deals, but now he has decided to focus on deals on a city by city basis starting in his home town of Irvine. He’s working with a crew of five UC Irvine graduates who are gathering together the coupons and bringing them to you.

Some of the killer coupons:

20% off a meal at Aloha Hawaiian Barbecue - expires at the end of October.

Free popcorn with purchase of a large drink AMC theaters

Get a free cookie or croissant at Champagne Bakery when you buy a hot beverage

$2 per game, $2 beer, $2 food at Irvine Lanes

September 28th, 2009, 1:15 pm by Ian Hamilton

349303-bowling_ball_large

Just the other day I was looking for cheap bowling and talked myself out of going because the lanes I found were just priced way too high for me.

Low and behold, there are some good bowling deals out there. Irvine Lanes has $2 nights every Tuesday (from 8 p.m. to midnight) and Thursday (from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m.).

That’s $2  for each game, shoes, domestic draft beers, well drinks, chili dogs and nachos.

Irvine Lanes is located at 3514 Michelson Drive in Irvine. Check out their Web site here or call 949-786-9625.

Do you know of any more good deals for things to go and do?  Let everyone know in the comments or shoot me an email at ihamilton@ocregister.com

Irvine as a vacation destination?

July 8th, 2009, 3:03 pm by Erika Chavez, Staff Writer
Cooling off at Wild Rivers.

Cooling off at Wild Rivers.

Times are tough, and the whole “staycation” concept has gained steam as more and more people strive to pinch as many pennies as possible.

But wait…what about a “nearcation,” or a vacation close to home? Would you consider…Irvine?

That’s what the Irvine Chamber Visitors Bureau is hoping as it launches a summer vacation promotion meant to lure travelers near and far to the Safest City in America.

Here’s the deal, and Irvine’s selling points, as stated by the Irvine CVB:

•   Hotel rooms starting at $69 per night
•   Stay two nights and get $25 or stay three nights and get $50 back
•   Nearby Beaches without the beach prices
•   Stay halfway between San Diego and Los Angeles
•   Close access to protected wilderness parks, chic outdoor shopping, and family-fun  theme parks such as Wild Rivers Waterpark, Boomers, Knotts Berry Farm, Disneyland, and much more

And if you’re still not sold, there’s always the weather…

“Cool off in the Mediterranean-style climate that is on average 10 to 20 degrees cooler than inland cities.”

To book your Irvine vacation, visit the CVB website or call 877-IRVINE-7.

So, what do you think? Might Irvine be a part of your next vacation? Why or why not? Any other “nearcation” destinations you’d recommend?

Weigh in and TAKE THE POLL!

Would you consider Irvine as a vacation destination?
