Beauty product discounts in July at John Paul Hair Salon

John Paul Hair Salon is hosting a VIP Summer Beauty Event every Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. in July.  Here’s the schedule:

July 1 – Skin Care Day:  Receive a free face map by a Dermalogica esthetician and receive 10% of all skincare services and skincare products.
July 8 – Products Day:  Receive 10% off all hair care products.
July 15 – Spa Day:  Receive a free manicure with the purchase of a hot stone pedicure or gift certificate for the same or greater value; also receive 10% off any booking of a manicure or pedicure.
July 22 – Color Service Day:  Receive 50% off any hair cut with a color service; and 10% off all hair care products (good with participating stylists.)
July 29 – Formal Looks: Receive 50% off any formal or special occasion hair style (good with participating stylists.)

Tustin gets a new hair salon

After spending four years as a stylist in a Santa Ana studio, Jeff Ludwig has decided to open his own place in Tustin, Elysse James reports.

The salon, which will host a grand opening ceremony on July 15, has a homey feel to welcome customers.

The Ludwigs said they decided to open the salon now because Jeff Ludwig had a strong customer base from his styling work, and because they aren’t worried about a recession.

Irvine shoemaker donates 18,000 pairs

zipzshoes_blogEighteen-thousand pairs of bare feet will soon get covered, thanks to a donation from Irvine-based Zipz Shoes.

The company donated $300,000 of footwear this week to Soles4Souls, a nonprofit in Nashville that helps clothe needy feet in more than 125 countries.

This latest batch includes products from Zipz’s patented kids’ shoes. The tops and bottoms — the “covers” and “souls, as they’re called — be interchanged to mix and match colors and patterns.

“The result of changing styles and patterns from our 2008 inventory will give thousands of less fortunate children around the world the first look at some of the newest and hippest shoes on the planet,” wrote Jerry Stefani, creator and founder of Zipz.

Local deli delights in surprise sales

papadino_blogDean “Dino” Gulo, catering manager at Irvine’s newly menu-expanded Papa Chino’s Deli and Catering, has written in with some good news. Alas, a positive byte from the dust-biting economy:

“Our business has tripled… especially with our new bakery that produces white and wheat subs and new bread, with our top grade meats and hot dogs and delicious French fries and new specialty sandwiches… customers have been referring other customers to us.

“Also, our catering business has doubled and we keep getting more new accounts… To give you an idea what kind of new companies started catering from us, FedEx orders 35 to 55 sandwiches weekly also Fletcher Jones Mercedes orders 85 sandwiches every Saturday for their employees.”

Summer concert series gets a righteous headliner

Guitarist Jerry McFarland, who played with the likes of the Righteous Brothers‘ Bill Medley, will serenade and entertain audiences once again at Orchard Hills Village Center Thursday evenings through July 23. The performances are part of the center’s courtyard music series and start at 6 p.m.

Orchard Hills Village Center is at Portola Parkway and Culver Drive (click for map).

“As a guitarist, vocalist and keyboard player, Jerry has worked with many very special musicians; among them Bill Medley of the famed Righteous Brothers and Nashville Christian artist singer-songwriter Jeff Pearson. Jerry has worked with the likes of Steve Wood (Kenny Loggins and Honk), Frank Cotinola (Jose Feliciano and the Missiles of October), and Tim Lee (Bill Medley Righteous Brothers band).
