After numerous tries, I finally sat down to eat at Boudin SF.
For the past several months, I haven’t been able get near the place, especially at lunch time. So, how did I finally get in? I went for breakfast.
The café-like setting is clean and the service is nice, pleasant and helpful.
I’m one of those people who would rather fill up on a good breakfast and have it stay with me all day rather than lunch.
On this morning, the line was small; I ordered breakfast pretty quickly. Surprisingly, the offerings are abundant. I think most people think of Boudin as a lunch place.
I decided to go with the . My friend chose the vegetable Scramble.
Other options include my other all-time fave, oatmeal, as well as “Sourdough French Toast,” a “Traditional” meal of scrambled eggs, bacon or sausage with hash browns, toast and jam. There are even breakfast pizzas, a series of Scrambles served with hash browns and choice of toast, and breakfast sandwiches.
Of course, the lunch menu is what attracts most: There is everything from egg salad and tuna salad sandwiches to signature dishes of chicken pesto, hot sandwiches on baguettes, large salads, pizzas, and bigger entrées including beef stew. Of course, Boudin’s soups such as the clam chowder in their famous sour dough bread bowls are the main attraction.
My granola and yogurt parfait was not only pretty but it was tasty, too. I loved the crunch of the hearty granola and the smooth, velvety feel of the vanilla non-fat yogurt, as well as the sweetness of the fresh medley of fruit. My friend’s Scramble was also very good; it was loaded with spinach, tomatoes, red peppers and broccoli, mixed in with scrambled eggs. It was served with some great hash browns.
Of course, the sour dough bread is the winner, and if you’re into counting carbs like I usually am, let it slide for a day and splurge – it’s well worth it.
Next time, I’d like to try the clam chowder in the bread bowl for lunch if I can get past the parking lot.
